Tuesday Book Chat | Is There a Topic or Issue You’d Prefer Not to Read?

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Is there a topic or issue you’d prefer not to read?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

This can depend on what is happening in life. I know when mum’s time was coming to an end I couldn’t read a couple books dealing with people with cancer.  Mum didn’t have cancer but it was the dealing with the treatments and no knowing if they would survive.  I am not a fan of the heroine about to turn 30 who thinks life is over because they are still single.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group. I will be late replying as have a trip to the city today.

  1. Right now I’d prefer to not read anything about covid 19. It’s in your face all day long, some twisted understandings and misrepresentations and much division and hatred.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Penny I fully agree. Its just to real right now maybe in 50 years.

  2. Agree about COVID. Also, domestic violence scenes, stalkers (just way overdone these days) and sexual assault of any form. Thanks for asking…great question.

    1. I agree toe. I don’t want the DM scenes I don’t mind a mention or if the book deals in a way where it empowers the victim to leave etc. Yes stalkers can be overdone and any sexual assault is another I don’t like especially when some authors go a little to far with the scenes. Thanks for stopping by and come as we do a question every week.

  3. I stopped reading an otherwise marvelous book because the emotional roller coaster of an approaching death of a character felt just too close at the time. But I may get back to that book and finish it someday. I’ve read others equally poignant at different times and loved them. It was just the timing that was wrong. I can’t say there’s a particular topic or issue I would strictly avoid although I don’t enjoy books that deal with topics using graphic sex or violence.

    1. Yes that was me after mum had just passed away. I thought one I may get back to but at now 9 years I still am not ready for it as it is a reminder of the time. I agree to its the timing. I feel a Christian book shouldn’t have graphic sex scenes and have stopped reading one historical author who has had very similar scenes in a couple of books. They could have conveyed the scene with out being as graphic. On the violence I agree
