Tuesday Book Chat | It’s Star Wars Day! Do You Read Sci-fi or Fantasy Novels?

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

It’s Star Wars day! Do you read Sci-fi or fantasy novels?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I have read a few fantasy novels more so than sci-fi. As a teen I loved the Narnia books growing up and remember another series in a similar vain. I have read a few other fantasy books a couple by Jeanette O’Hagan which I have enjoyed. With Sci-fi most I have watched has an earth base of some sort, Stargate SG1 is based on earth, Star Trek Earth in the future. Even Lost in Space starts on Earth and ever Dr Who features earth, the exception is Star Wars.

I would love to hear of some sci-fi books as I do love watching it but not sure I have read any books.

Your turn.

  1. I’m really not a fan of Sci-fi and Fantasy. I’ve read a few for reviewing and for work, but didn’t enjoy them.

    1. I am not sure I have read Sci-fi but think I would prefer to watch then read it. I guess I have always like fantasy right from Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway tree, to Alice in Wonderland, The Narnia series. I haven’t read as many adult ones.

  2. I do read sci-fi and fantasy, and have enjoyed a number of novels and novellas, including ‘The Verindon Alliance’ by Lynne Stringer, the ‘Under the Mountain’ series by Jeanette O’Hagan, the Blaine Colton series by Adele Jones (which is near future, so reads like contemporary), Terri Blackstock’s ‘Restoration’ series, and Adam Collings’ first two installments of the ‘Jewel of the Stars’ series. I’m also currently reading the ‘Crossed Spaces’ sci-fi anthology. For mainstream novels, I also really enjoyed Marisa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series; and Ray Bradbury’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’ is one of my top 5 favourite books of all time. Even though all of these are set in the future and/or in fantastic worlds, they still have universal themes that would appeal to a wide range of people. So I would say if someone hasn’t dabbled in these books before, you might be surprised if you give them a go.
