What was the last book you've read that you'd recommend, and why?

It’s Iola here. Welcome to our Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What was the last book you’ve read that you’d recommend, and why?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Or, if you’re feeling wordy (like me), write a blog post and link to it in the comments.

  1. Hi Iola, Great question! The last book I’ve read and recommended on my author blog is The Baggage Handler by David Rawlings. It’s a story that my teenage son also enjoyed reading, and he isn’t a big reader. 🙂

    1. It takes something good to get teenage boys reading! It probably helps that The Baggage Handler isn’t a long novel – that makes it less threatening for those who aren’t big readers.

  2. Very hard question. I have only read devotionals this year so far but if you like the “When Calls The Heart” DVD’s or (have watched it on Netflix) When God Calls The Heart (Devotions from Hope Valley) by Brian Bird and Michelle Cox
It has a devotion based on the episodes from the show. I haven’t quite finished as I need to watch a few more DVDs but I am loving reading them. They have a verse, quote from the show, devotion, prayer and then some thought provoking questions. Its a great book to go with the series.

    1. There are When Calls the Heart devotionals? I loved the books (but haven’t watch it on Netflix as I usually watch with my husband and he prefers shows with cars and explosions). I’ll watch out for that.

      1. Yes it goes with the series (mainly series one and two). It mentions the episode and one of the main themes and then how its applied to life etc. I am only half way through as I need to watch more of the dvd’s. It makes it much easier if you know whats happening first other wise it gives away part of the story.

    1. I’ve just read your newsletter – you’ve highlighted some excellent books there! I haven’t yet read any Tessa Afshar books, although I did listen to one as an audiobook. I didn’t like that much, because it seemed really slow. However, I think that was more a reflection on the narrator and the speed at which I read vs. the speed people can narrate and still be understood. I’ll check this one out 🙂

  3. Just finished Unspoken by Dee Henderson for the 4th time. Basically anything by Dee Henderson is a good read.
