  1. I like historicals where something other than the romance is the main point of the plot. Favorite time periods: ancient world, including OT and Early Church. Roman Empire is my big favorite (maybe because I write it ). The medieval period can be very good in the hands of someone who really does their research to nail the history. I enjoy some Regencies, and any book by Roseanna White will have an exciting plot with a romance woven through and impeccable historical research behind the writing. She writes many time periods from OT and Early Church to Civil-War and earlier America and early 1900s England. When there’s a mystery or cleverly crafted intrigue driving the plot, I find those especially good. I also want strong character arcs that aren’t only romantic arcs.

    1. Thanks for commenting. I like reading books around the civil war as long as they don’t gloss over it. I read one that was set in the war and it mentioned it was hard during the war and one scene had them hiding foods and treasures to keep them from being stolen but that was about it although the books had a title indicating it was set at this time. The book doesn’t have to go into the battles but even going further into the hardships would have made it a much better book.
I think picking a genre is hard as while I probably prefer historicals there are times and settings I don’t like.

  2. I enjoy historical fiction. However, recently I found two Sunday School prizes of a relative of our son-in-law. I am enjoying reading the first of these. They are general fiction and the one I am reading at the moment has a bit of romance in it, too. The other is by an author I enjoyed in Sunday School prizes I received. I look forward to reading that when I finish the first one. They are a bit lighter reading than other books I have been reading.

    1. Thanks for commenting Heather. Its good to read other genres too isn’t it. Right now I am reading cozy mystery. I tend to read different ones depending on the book. The latest is due to the cat on the cover.
