Today I am reviewing a Christian Romantic Suspense by Lori DeJong, Sanctuary and Sabotage set in Texas.
Book Description:
The greatest threat isn’t the enemy outside—it’s the secrets between them.
Security Specialist Trevor Paxton returns to his Texas hometown searching for sanctuary after the death of a colleague under his leadership. The family ranch should be a place to regroup, recover, and make peace with the past.
Instead, it leads him straight back to Kinsley Talbot.
The freckle-faced tomboy he remembers is now a beautiful, determined veterinarian fighting to protect her clinic, her family’s land, and a future built on faith and grit. Trevor never expected to fall for the sister of his boyhood best friend, but the more time he spends with Kinsley, the harder it is to walk away.
When her clinic is sabotaged and danger closes in, Trevor’s instincts tell him the attack is no accident. Kinsley is holding something back, and though she refuses his offer to involve his security agency, Trevor knows the threat is too serious to ignore.
As Kinsley begins to trust him with her heart, Trevor makes a choice that could shatter that trust. Working behind the scenes may be the only way to keep her safe, but Kinsley has a secret of her own, and the truth between them may be as dangerous as the enemy closing in.
Perfect for fans of Robin Patchen, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Dee Henderson, Sanctuary and Sabotage is a Christian romantic suspense novel filled with small-town danger, buried secrets, and a Texas mystery where love and trust are tested under fire.
Book Review:
I loved book one last year and have been eagerly awaiting book 2 this year and I wasn’t disappointed. This book features Security Specialist Trevor Paxton who has returned to his hometown and the farm he grew up one. In his last Op there was a death of a colleague and he feels responsible. At this stage he isn’t sure he will continue. Next door is the home of his best friend growing up and his sister Kinsley Talbot. Kinsley is now a qualified vet. Their paths cross when Trevor and his uncle require the assistance of the Vet, Kinsley. Trevor hasn’t seen Kinsley since he graduated and she is no longer just the younger sister of his friend but is now a grown woman.
Kinsley had a crush on Trevor growing up and now she is seeing him again her crush is growing. At the same time Trevor is seeing her as she is for the first time. I did enjoy the romance side of this book, but I also enjoyed the suspense aspects. There are things happening which make Trevor want to protect Kinsley, not big things but enough to make him wary. He wants to provide protection, but Kinsley doesn’t want protection. While she refuses, he is determined to protect her and her practice. Part of the reason is her brother Eli, he’s in trouble and wants her help.
I would love to say more about the sabotage and what is happening but then you wouldn’t have to read the book. You can feel the danger going to happen and I can understand Trevor needing to protect Kinsley. The book also deals with mental scars and survivor’s guilt. Trevor is dealing with this although he doesn’t see it that way to start. It also deals with times when we struggle to pray and feel God is far away. It’s not that we lose our faith it’s just harder to understand feel that God is there helping. I actually loved the way the author deals with this and showing how it affects Trevor and how he overcomes the feelings.
There are also side characters that are important in the book, and we see Colton and Riley from book one back again. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense where you can sense danger around every corner give this book a go. While this book is part of a series you can read this book as a standalone. You won’t be lost but reading Mistletoe and Malice would enhance your reading experience as it would fill in a few gaps. I look forward to book three next year.
