DEVOTIONS: God loves us as He finds us

God loves us as He finds us, just as we are.

Have you ever found yourself listening to a song only to have the lyrics take your breath away? When lyrics hit home so deeply that you feel like someone has taken your journal and turned it into a song? The other day as I listened to ‘As you find me’ by Hillsong United some of the lyrics hit home and put words to things I have been feeling recently:

I have wrestled and I have trembled toward surrender
Chased my heart adrift and drifted home again
……
And every time I turn around
Lord You’re still there

I have wrestled and I have trembled towards surrender.

My word, have I wrestled with surrender. I am still wrestling with surrender. Daily. I am fiercely independent, so surrendering myself and my will to God has always been a challenge for me. Years into my faith walk, I still struggle to surrender everything over to God. I surrender what I need to surrender, but then I try to wrestle it right back because I get too impatient or frustrated. That is the dance I do with God: I surrender, I wrestle to take it back, I surrender again.

You would think that after many years walking with my Jesus, I would trust that He knows better than I do and that He has plans for my good (Jeremiah 29:11). But no, I still struggle to trust that things will work out. I let fear and anxiousness override my trust in the One who has never let me down yet. I let my eyes and my heart get distracted and overwhelmed by life, so much so that they affect heart.

Chased my heart adrift and drifted home again.

I don’t know about you, but my heart has gone adrift more times than I would like to admit. At times, it has gotten lost at sea. I’ve drifted so far from shore that it feels like I can’t see the land anymore. But God. [bctt tweet=”Faithful is He to lead me back to shore #devotions #layshalawe” username=”acwriters”]. Faithful is He to be there waiting, every time I turn back around; every time I realise how far I have gone and how much I need Him, the Lord is still there, arms open, guiding me back home to Him.

The Father of the prodigals, ever watching the horizon for His wandering children.

If you have ever wandered from God, know this: every time you turn around, He is still there. He is still waiting with arms open. God loves us as He finds us. He loves us with an everlasting love and has drawn us with unfailing kindness (Jeremiah 31:3). He is for you and there is nothing that you can do that will change that. Wherever you are with God today, be encouraged that He loves you as you are, and He is always there.

  1. Amen. Our God is an Awesome God! Thank you so much for posting this. I know a lot of times when I run into a scripture, I realize how much I needed to hear that one at the exact moment. Have a Great week . God Bless you.

  2. My turn-me-around song is ‘Who you say I am’ When I’ve turned away and tried to be someone I’m not, it hits me be between the shoulder blades and spins me around and back into those loving compassionate, patuenly waiting arms again and again! ‘I’m a child of God, thats who i am!
