Tuesday Book Chat | Where would you like to visit in a novel?

Welcome to the Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Where would you like to visit in a novel?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

When I first read this question, I thought hmm… this isn’t an easy question to answer! It depends on how I’m feeling and the genre I want to read.

I love visiting regency England via Carolyn Miller’s books. In the last few months I’ve fallen behind on my reading and writing (and everything else) due to family commitments. My next paperback to read is Jessica Kate’s debut rom-com ‘Love and Other Mistakes’ set on the US East Coast. I’m looking forward to visiting my home town (Sydney) in Christine Dillon’s third fiction book ‘Grace in Deep Waters’.

What do you think? Where would you like to visit in a novel?

  1. My first thought was Hawaii as I would love to go visit again. I also love reading books in Canada.
I like reading from a variety of places. I love reading a book set where I have been and can recognise some of the places mentioned. A book set in Horsham area in Victoria would be cool too as it was where we use to go for holidays as its where mum cam from. Or the Grampians as we use to go there also when in Horsham

    1. Hi Jenny, yes, it’s fun to read books set in holiday destinations that bring back good memories. Presumably there are Aussie fiction books set in Horsham or the Grampians? Amanda Deed has historical romances set in regional Victoria and Dorothy Adamek’s historical romances are set in Phillip Island. 🙂

  2. I too love Carolyn Miller’s Regency romances, and as a long-standing fan of Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen, I would love to visit Bath in England to relive those early nineteenth century days! Can you imagine the rumble of the carriage wheels and clop of horses hooves on the the cobblestones, the swish of those totally inappropriate feather weight muslin dresses in the drizzling spring weather and the tinkle of society laughter in the libraries and pump rooms?

  3. I love reading and writing books in (i) The tea plantations and other exotic Sri Lankan locations (ii) Jindabyne and the snowy mountains (iii) Exciting trains of Australia (e.g. Indian Pacific
Do you think people would like reading these?

    1. Patricia a story set on the Indian Pacific or The Ghan would be interesting. specially if it broke down. Although I did meet quite a few people from Perth who where staying at my hotel who were on the Indian Pacific on a tour. (train to Adelaide then do some tours and have some free time then home on train). They had to be bussed for most of the way and hated it. Most opted to fly back.

  4. Hi Patricia, yes! Many readers (myself included) enjoy arm chair traveling to unfamiliar locations via reading. I like traveling by train, and I would definitely read a book of yours that included this. If the story is good, readers will jump on board and travel with you. 🙂

  5. Grace in Deep Waters also has scenes on Lord Howe Island, and that appeals to me – a place with beautiful beaches where we can get away from it all!
