Devotional | Faith Declarations

Greater Is He that is in me than He that is in the world. 1 John 4 verse 4 (NIV).

Songs speak to me. Whether its the melody, the beat or the lyrics, songs are one way that God gets my attention. Recently, I was talking to the Lord about a re-occurring problem I have of being grumpy. It’s not something I like about myself. Within a short time, came a memory. I “heard” the melody and the words of an old Hillsongs song called Faith. One of my all time favourite Christian songs. Full of scripture, full of declarations, joyful,  such a great song to frame my day.

I quickly found the video on YouTube. Listening to those scriptures transported me back to a time and a place where I learnt it. Immediately, the life force, embedded in the scriptures, by  Holy Spirit, quickened my spirit! Quicken is a really old word and it shows my age but I need this quickening on a regular basis. And may I suggest, so do you. So what does this song, the scriptures have to do with my grumpiness? Everything.

Firstly, the scriptures give us hope that our, for example, grumpiness is not the end, the Greater One living in us is. When our head is down over regrets, He lifts it up. When we think we have blown our chances of our destiny, we are reminded that NOTHING will keep us from all that He has for us.

The word of God is living and active and sharper than a two edged sword so when we wield that sword, we are wielding  something dangerous because of the life and activity inherent within it. Gods word is not a showpiece in a museum, a thing of the past. Its meant to be taken from the words on a page and declared out loud. It needs to be activated to be effective.

Every scripture is God breathed and impregnated with power to perform what it was designed to do. As we breath in and declare scriptures, we too are setting ourselves up to not only progressively become the people God has ordained for us to be come, but empowered to do the work He has called and designed us to do. It doesn’t get better than that. So when I declare Greater is He who is living in me that he that is in the world, I’m declaring that my grumpiness can be transformed to joy because I’m reminding myself  of the Greater One who lives in me. He lives His life through me as I give Him room.

Some scriptures are virtually you speaking to your own spirit and some are directed straight to God. He loves to hear us declaring His very word to Him and He loves to hear us declaring scriptures to ourselves to our own spirit.

Questions for reflecting on:

Where/what/how? In what ways do you find God speaks to you?
As you ponder, proclaim or declare  some of the scriptures contained in the song Faith or any other song that speaks to you, what happens to your faith quotient?
  1.  I’m reaching for the prize I am pressing on towards the goal  Philippians Chapter 3 verse 14
  2. Greater is he that is living in me than he that is in the world 1 John 4: 4
  3.  You hold my head up high Psalm 3 v. 3
  4.  Nothing will keep me from the plans you have for me Romans 8 verse 28

Be empowered this day to take the sword out of the scabbard, find some scriptures that remind God who He is for you, wield it over yourself and the situations in your life that need to shift. Go out and reach for the prize!!
