Tuesday Book Chat | 23 June 2026

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.

Today’s question is:

Do you read trigger warnings or skip them?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Let’s chat!

If they have a warning, I do tend to read them as there are some topics I am not keen to read about. Also, at different times due to things happening in life, I wish there had been a trigger warning. I DNF two books at the time because of the subject. While in one book the outcome was good, I couldn’t handle the hero in treatment and all it entailed at the time. I also don’t like reading about abuse. I also do not want to read books that are the new trend bully to more. I appreciate a trigger warning for this story line as having been a victim this storyline can be triggering especially when they minimize the bullying.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. Trigger warnings are helpful, but you don’t find them on many books.
If I see them included before I purchase a book it will let me know if I want to purchase it or not – though you don’t always see it when buying books online.

    1. Thats true there are books that really need one at times cos there are subjects I don’t want to read. I think the question came up after a few books last year could have really used a warning and didn’t give any indication. From memory even the blurbs made them sound like a light read but they also dealt with some really serious subjects like depression which to most would be fine but if you are in the middle of it the book may trigger someone.

  2. I do read them. I prefer to know about certain topics instead of being unpleasantly surprised.

  3. I agree cos often the blurb doesn’t mention anything that may be an issue and then it hits you as you are reading.

  4. If they have trigger warnings, I do read them in case there is something I don’t want to read especially since I go by my mood.

  5. If a book does list trigger warnings I pay attention because I have PTSD and am a survivor of domestic abuse. There are a few occasions where I wish there had been a warning.

    1. I agree Cindi abuse of any sort should have a trigger warning.
