Tuesday Book Chat | Which Social Media Platforms Do You Use To Find Book Recommendations?

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Which social media platforms do you use to find book recommendations?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I don’t really use social media platforms to find books. Occasionally in a facebook author or authors group I may get some ideas but it would be more from blogs. I guess sometimes seeing a recommendation from a friend may help but not normally.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group. Remember all comments go into the monthly drawer for a gift voucher.

  1. – The Best New Books articles on the ABC (abc.net.au)
    – Goodreads readers’ choice lists

I order books from these lists and when I find an author I like I order more of their books, then find myself going down rabbit holes online looking for similar types of books which take me to various other online places and more authors!

I always have my hold list at the library full. ;o)

    1. I should add, the ABC isn’t social media but like you, Jenny, I don’t really find my recommendations from them.

      1. I guess Social Media can include or not include so much. I hasn’t thought of Goodreads being Social Media either or even Book bub.
to me I think Facebook, Twitter, TicToc, Pinterest and Instagram (and a few of those platforms I don’t know about.)
I see places like Amazon, Goodreads, bookbub as places to find out about authors and books but not so much social media.
I like where you get your information from.

  2. I don’t really use social media to find books either.
I follow a few authors and publishers on Facebook, but that’s just to see what’s new from my favourite authors.

    1. I agree. I don’t think we are the target audience of those trying to sell on social media.

  3. Hi Jenny, Twitter is my go-to place, followed by Instagram. I like Twitter the best because I can create lists and see tweets from the people on my lists, rather than an algorithm deciding what I do and don’t want to see. The advantage of Twitter over Instagram is the sales links are included in the tweets. I use Feedly to read blog posts, and read recommendations from the book bloggers I follow. 😊
