Book Review | The Christmas Box by Jessica Wakefield

Today I am reviewing The Christmas Box by Jessica Wakefield

Book description:

Three Christmas Novellas

Can Christmas be saved by a mysterious box? Join three couples across three decades as they find love in places they least expected it.

1995: Braving Christmas

Amy Franklin is in love with her best friend. Years of family rejection have left her unable to tell Chris Lawrence how she feels for fear of history repeating itself. But as she becomes the key to saving his family’s Christmas tree farm, she realizes teaming up with Chris permanently might just be worth being brave after all.

2005: Risking Christmas

Holed up in a cabin in Connecticut during a blizzard, chef Josh Keller is looking to finish a proposal for his new restaurant. But he didn’t count on getting snowed in with Nicole Abbot, the very food critic who derailed his career faster than you can say master chef. As the days drift by, Josh and Nicole form a tentative truce that might just turn into more.

2015: Faking Christmas

Antonia Katsaros needs a fake boyfriend to attend her sister’s Christmas-themed engagement party, or she’ll never hear the end of it from her meddling family. In the mall, she meets Dylan Matthews, a guy more than ready to help the woman who helped his niece. Can their fake relationship turn real just in time for the holidays?

My Review:

This is Jessica’s debut novel and I enjoyed it. Each story is linked by the Christmas box which I found endearing. I would love to see a historical series of novellas showing how the tradition started and from different places mentioned.

I enjoyed story one as I do like Christmas tree farms. There is something about them probably because we don’t have as many here. We don’t have the snow and the extra associated with winter. I also know the pine trees in America are different to the ones where I live less pollen and so different. Amy and Chris have known each other since childhood with Amy spending a lot of time at Chris’s family’s home. I did enjoy how the story played out and how the Christmas box is introduced.

Book two we have Josh and Nicole in a blizzard with a small dog. Josh is a chef and Nicole had written a review which affected his job. It was interesting to see the interactions and again how the Christmas box came into the story. Josh isn’t a dog person but the dog has different ideas.

Book Three is a story many singles with a large family would relate to (especially Greek families). Antonia is single and dreading the Christmas get togethers and the Aunties asking when are you getting a boyfriend. When are you having children etc. Dylan is also single and while not in a Greek family has the same issues. I really enjoyed this story because I could relate. Not with the family but I did often get the why aren’t you married, what’s wrong with you questions. Again the Christmas box comes into the story and I love how it happened.

I really wish the stories kept going as I need to know more. This is a great debut book for Jessica and I look forward to more. The novella’s are clean contemporary romance with a Christian worldview.

Do you like novella’s with a theme?
